Renault Clio (98 - 01)
This version of the Clio was to be one of the most popular to come from the Renault brand for a long time. It’s a reliable little hatchback that is just as easy on the wallet as it is on the eye, and to this day it still sells well in the used car market. It costs little to buy used, and it is cheap to keep on the road so it represents good value and a sensible purchase. Considering it’s a supermini, it’s practical with decent leg/head room. The boot is a good size too. The cabin itself is nicely worked. The materials are robust and everything is laid out neatly and is easy to use. There’s a good level of standard equipment, and there is a huge number of trims and special editions available. The Clio is a simple car to drive and feels nippy about town. It handles well, the steering is nice and sharp, the gear change is smooth and the ride is supple. It would definitely be a great choice of car for a learner driver.
