Review
Renault Captur (13 - present)
This is Renault’s first venture into the crossover market and they have managed to create quite a stir with it. When you see a car in strong orange/yellow with a black roof you are unlikely to miss out on the fact it is a Captur. This crossover has the height of an SUV, the space of an MPV and the handling of a sporty hatchback. It’s safe to say the surprisingly reasonable price and low running costs make it into a decent package for someone looking for a car that is different – but practical. There’s lots of room in the cabin, with ample leg/head space. They have also put in a lot of standard comfort and safety equipment. Without doubt it is one of the easiest to drive in the segment. It handles along the lines of a sporty hatch and the steering is precise. The chassis is nicely set up to give a firm but comfortable ride. The diesel engine is excellent.
Look out for
• There was no grip control initially, which hindered its off-road ability
What we like
• It’s an easy car to drive; it handles like a sporty hatchback
• It doesn’t cost a fortune to buy or keep on the road
• Really practical. It has the height of an SUV and space of an MPV
• Score five stars in the NCAP safety rating
• It’s a nice looking car inside and out.
• There’s plenty of choice for personalisation
What we don't like
• The boot could be a little bit bigger; there are larger ones in class
