Review
Hyundai i30 (12 - 16)
The latest i30 makes a strong case for your money. The specially shaped headlights and grille, contoured bodywork, and sporty looking tailgate make it one of the best looking on the market. The interior is nicely laid out and quite spacious. It can carry five, and the boot, which is one of the biggest in class, can store their luggage. There’s plenty of standard kit, lots of soft-touch materials and chrome finished dials and buttons, which give it an up-market feel. Driving the new i30 is different too; it handles and grips well; the ride quality is smooth, the driving position is spot on, and the gear changes are slick. There’s a good selection of engines; they’re reliable and torquey with plenty of brake horse power and excellent fuel economy.
Look out for
• Some drivers have said steering and ride quality isn’t great with the 16 inch wheels
What we like
• The interior of the car is top quality
• Has plenty of standard equipment
• The ride quality, and handling are excellent
• The diesel engines are particularly frugal
• It is good value for money
What we don't like
• The automatic version costs a lot to keep it on the road
