Toyota Yaris (06 - 11)
This was such a popular version, thanks to Toyota constantly upgrading what is a fine supermini. It’s a solid looking car, with understated styling. The cabin looks good too; everything is neat, tidy and simple. There’s a generous amount of standard spec which is all the more noteworthy considering its price tag. There’s good room and passengers will notice the decent leg and head room while there is good space in the boot. It’s a lovely car and handles far better than you might expect. It is fun to drive with a lovely feedback from the steering while gear change is easy and smooth. This is one of the most sought after cars on the second-hand market.

• Make sure the necessary recall work was carried out properly
What we like
• Surprisingly spacious cabin and a decent size boot
• There’s a generous level of standard kit and safety features
• It’s a safe car; it did really well in the Euro NCAP safety tests
• Simple to drive and manoeuvre thanks to its compact dimensions
What we don't like
• The automatic option available is a bit disappointing
